Description

In Illinois, victims of sex and labor trafficking present to medical providers in clinics and emergency departments for acute and/or chronic injuries or for medical complaints unrelated to violence. Like many victims of non-accidental trauma, these patients do not self-identify as victims of trafficking to healthcare providers. Using a combination of the chief complaint, the medical assessment, and the social assessment, it is up to medical providers to recognize that a patient may be a victim of trafficking.

In partnership with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital and Swedish Covenant Hospital, The Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force invites healthcare providers to learn more about human trafficking in the healthcare setting. Learn how to identify and respond to human trafficking with information about trauma-informed care, human trafficking in Chicago, red flags and indicators, clinical presentation and treatment, curricula for education programs for healthcare providers, and the development of medical protocols to specifically address human trafficking.

This day-long training is open to 90 healthcare providers. Space is limited. Register by May 15, 2015. A light breakfast and afternoon snack will be provided. Lunch is on your own. 5.5 CEUs are available at no additional cost.

We encourage non-healthcare providers to attend the 5th Annual Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force Conference on August 6 and 7th, 2015. Find more information about the conference here.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Illinois State Medical Society through the joint providership of Swedish Covenant Hospital, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and the Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force. The Swedish Covenant Hospital is accredited by the Illinois State Medical Society to provide Continuing Medical Education for physicians.
